Before I Die is an interactive public art project started by artist Candy Chang. It encourages and inspires community residents and visitors alike to share their stories and dreams in a public forum. Through this project we can be reminded of how valuable we are not only as individuals, but as united communities.
By installing this interactive art project in a number of Pittsburgh’s under developed neighborhoods, we hope to inspire positive personal change not only within participating individuals, but in the community as a whole.
As friends, it is our goal to facilitate projects that aid in the preservation of the neighborhoods we love the most. It’s these places that have shaped us into the adults we are now and any steps we can take to keep the identities of these neighborhoods vibrant and alive, is a step in the right direction.
In short, we’d like to make the neighborhoods of Pittsburgh places were residents of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds will feel welcome and invited to grow and explore the urban landscape we’ve grown to love.
